What is Clairvoyance?
Like many words we have borrowed Clairvoyance from the French language!
Clair = clear or clarity
Voyance = visibility
So in other words, to see clearly!
Often the term Clairvoyant is used interchangeably with the word psychic to mean someone that can see into the future, that is able to know things not obvious to the ‘five senses’, leading some people to call psychic ability a sixth sense.
However the word Clairvoyant is more specific than that, and in this article I will discuss that and other psychic methods of knowledge and prediction
(I use the quote marks as it was Aristotle that declared that there were five senses – touch, sight, smell, hearing and taste – but many people find this too broad, for instance feeling that the sensation of pain, or of knowing where your limbs are without looking, are proof of more than 5 senses)
Cool little trick:
This doesn’t really have much to do with clairvoyance but is kind of fun! Stand next to the wall and press your arm against it for about a minute or two, then step back and let your arm totally relax. Usually, your arm starts rising by itself! Spooky :o)
Anyway, I digress! Clairvoyance is just one way of experiencing knowledge not normally available to the senses, but there are lots of other ways that your senses can show you the future including…
Clairsentience (feeling/touching)
Clairsentience is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of feeling.
The word ‘Sentiens’ is from Latin and means ‘to feel’. In Buddhism, it is said to be one of the six human special functions that can be obtained by practicing advanced meditation. Generally the term refers to a person who can feel the vibration of other people.
There are many different degrees of clairsentience ranging from the perception of diseases of other people to the thoughts or emotions of other people. Unlike Clairvoyance no strong visual picture is formed, instead a strong physical feeling
Clairaudience (hearing/listening)
Clairaudience is another a form of extra-sensory perception with ‘audience’ meaning to hear or listen, and some people include this type of psychic ability under the term of clairvoyance.
In the same way that Clairvoyants frequently see in their mind’s eye rather than directly in front of them (although very experienced crystal ball readers are able to project an image into the ball) Clairaudience may refer not to actual perception of sound, but may instead create sounds, words, or music in their “inner mental ear”.
However it can also refer to actual noises such as voices, tones, or noises which are not apparent to other humans or to recording equipment. For instance, a clairaudient person might claim to hear the voices or thoughts of the spirits of persons who are deceased.
Sometimes people who are Clairaudient are thought to be mentally ill, but the difference can be revealed when the clairaudient person is able to predict things that they could not have known about someone or something.
Clairalience (smelling)
Also known as Clairescence from the French word ‘alience’ (smelling) is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of smelling. This is a more rare form of psychic ability, but happens to a select few – if you have experienced this please get in touch or leave a comment!
Claircognizance (knowing)
Claircognizance is recognizable from the English word, cognition, which means how we understand and know the world, and is yet another form of extra-sensory perception wherein the psychic acquires knowledge just by having it! It is the ability to know something without a physical explanation why you know it.
Most of us experience this at some time, and is often called things like a ‘gut feeling’ or intuition.
How I use Clairvognizance: For me my Claircognizance works well at telling me whether things will go to plan or not, and whether things will happen. All I have to do is try to imagine the event and see what my gut is telling me. I mix it with a litlle clairvoyance by trying to picture the event in my head. If I can’t do it then I know the event will not happen or will be not as expected.
Clairgustance (tasting)
One of the most rare types of psychic ability, I have not yet met a clairgustant!
This skill allows the psychic to taste a substance without putting anything in their mouth. It is claimed that those who possess this ability are able to perceive the essence of a substance from the spiritual or ethereal realms through taste. I’m not exactly sure how this works, but intrigued so get in touch if you experience this!
Psychic Abilities Conclusion
Well I hope that clears things up a bit! Why not experiment with different divination methods and see if you possess any of these skills?

I am a Clairairalience. I live in Norway and when I feel connection with someone I can smell the surroundings of that person even if its across the globe. What kind of scent she/he is wearing, what they are eating, what sort of fabric softener etc. I have often caught people of smoking too. Its a cool ability but I am not sure why I got this. I would really love to learn how to use it to help people. I am also a healer and I use that to help people all around the world. Distant healing.

I ‘m clairaudient, and more recently clairalience. The way I think of it, it’s a deep, personal connection to the spiritual realm. For me, the clear hearing is coming from beings of higher vibration. They seem to tune in when I’m not stressed, but also tune in to my thoughts as vibration. When I’m at a higher state, things are more apt to happen. For instance, automatic doors don’t ” see ” me, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to stop before walking into a door that wouldn’t open! There are 2 distinct tones one higher than the other; and they may come to either my left ear or right; never both at the same time.
And something else in recent years, I have ” visitations ” from energy beings. The ones that respect your physical space, I think may have lived a human life. I had one that didn’t do that, and energetically came into my body, or rather threw me on like a dress on a hanger; maybe just didn’t know any better; but at the same time what I picked up on from it was that it was non-threatening and ” PEACE “. That particular being was very curious, too. Was I afraid? Only a little bit, not knowing that such a thing was even possible. But I think we are all spiritual beings having a human life on Earth, and knowing there are others who aren’t the same as us. They aren’t necessarily bad because they’re different. They could say the very same about us.
One last thing, the smells everybody describes; I also experience that. I don’t understand it as an awareness of anyone I know, although it could be. I look at it as having a greater awareness connected to the mass consciousness of humanity. Our consciousness isn’t limited to the physical body.

I can taste auras. I can taste the structure existence of things. Its a nice feelings. You can taste colors.

I’m Clairalience and an Emotional Empath. I receive auras of fragrances, tobacco and past places of residence. Some communication has been with spirits of deceased family members & relatives. Also, communicating with spirits that chose me to convey to people I recently met, and people I will meet soon. People I meet I sense their feelings and needs.
I’ve also had experiences with spirits moving objects to get my attention; reorganizing the contents in my wallet, offsetting my computer on the cooling pad, TV, lights (flickering, too) and ceiling fan turned on.
My ability to convey messages between spirit and person is calming, in most cases, for the person and I feel blessed. I only say what spirits communicate to me. I don’t give my own advice.
Distinguishing a scent and the spirit it represents is a challenge. I welcome and appreciate advice at identifying these.

Hi…I smell things all the time. I also see and hear things in dreams that come true…so much so..that I keep a diary of my dreams with the dates each morning I wake up. 85% of them have come true…dreams are almost like a movie but haven’t happened yet..then, when they do…it’s almost exactly as my dream…I have even felt the pain when awakening from the dream…then a month later…it happens..just like the dream…other things too that is to freaky to tell in this…
I found this doing research to explain clairairalience. I had never heard of it but experienced it!! My ex husband was an alcoholic and multiple times I caught him lying by smelling alcohol days later , when he’d lie to me about drinking (the other night) it wasn’t alcohol from the day.. I’d have been with him the whole time and suddenly smell it so strong and just know.
I go through periods where I smell things that aren’t really there that other people can’t smell. Usually it is a “holy” smell like incense or roses. This gives me insight into the person or place with the smell. One time, I smelled a bad smell like gas when I was walking my dog and a dude comes up to me and gets chatty. Because of the smell I kept our interaction brief.

i am a clairalience i alway can smell when something is going to happen like i can smell my uncle aftershave out of the blue then he gets sick
Wow I’ve never heard that before but it makes sense, particularly as aftershave or perfume are such strong reminders to us of the people who wear them. I can almost smell aftershave now!
I think I am more than one of these (I’m just starting to learn about this) but I definitely smell spirit sometimes. I went to a new friends place for the first time and when I walked in the door I smelled extremely strong cigarette smoke to the point where I thought she must smoke inside. I walked in with one other person and she didn’t smell it. Eventually the new friend mentioned her father smoked heavily and she hated it. I paused and asked her if she smoked and she said no. I told her what I smelled and she said her father had appeared to her many times in her house. I work with elderly people and sometimes I randomly smell smells that remind me intensely of clients who have passed and I think it’s them saying hi or trying to tell me something. It usually only happens for about 5-10 seconds then it’s gone. I’ve had odd dreams my whole life involving spirit and a card reader I once went to said to me, “I don’t know why you’re here paying me honey. You are gifted and could be doing this yourself!” When I was little I would talk to spirit but I don’t remember this. My parents just have stories. I would apparently talk about a man in our home who was nice and would walk through our walls. My parents would catch me having conversations with this man to the point where I was pausing as if to let him speak, then replying.
I’ve also had experiences with spirit moving objects. A magnifying glass went flying across the living room of one of the houses we lived in while I was quietly listening to music. One of our ceiling fan’s switches (the long pull kind) made a sound once as if someone had pulled them hard and then they starting spinning. Usually stuff like that only happens if I’m alone I’ve noticed. My mom is definitely intuitive and when I’m with her it’s like we’re stronger together.
